Universal Design Unit (KUDU) IIUM and Department of Standards Malaysia
(STANDARDS MALAYSIA) is organizing a competition on Universal
Design Product Competition 2013 (UDPC 2013). UDPC 2013 is being held to expose the
community about the products design related to transportation services in
Malaysia and its implication on the daily life of its users, especially the
disable, children and the aged. The competition is supported by the Ministry of Science, Technology and
Innovation (MOSTI), and in collaboration with Majlis Rekabentuk Malaysia
(Malaysia Design Council).

Aim
The aim of the competition is
to provide an opportunity for designers, design students and students from
other related fields to enhance their creativity, ideas and innovations in
designing universal products for DBKL, KTM, LRT, etc. with the application of Malaysian
Standards (MS) in mind.It is hoped that with the usage
of application of the MS and other guidelines, advance technology, new ideas and
inventions by the participants from the local manufacturers, professional
designers and university students, the competition will be able to generate
innovative, creative, interesting, good and safe products to be utilized by
everyone regardless of age and condition.

Half Day Workshop on Universal Design and Product Design
In conjunction with UDPC 2013 Competition a workshop on Universal Design and Product Design is organized. The workshop will provide some insights on transportation guidelines as well as highlight the Malaysian Standards and other regulations. The invited speakers will be experts in transportation and infrastructure, and Standards Malaysia’s officer-in-charge in developing transportation Standards in Malaysia. The target audience for the workshop will be professional designers, manufacturers, educators and students. However, it is open to everybody but priority will be given to participants who register for the Universal Design Product Competition 2013.

The organizer cannot be held liable and responsible for any damages,
claims or lost of ideas before or after the competition. Design protection
according to the Intellectual Property Rights Act: All participants are
encouraged to register their designs under the Intellectual Property Rights Act
and to keep all documents as proof of ownership before sending or exposing their
design to the organizer.
