Half-Day Workshop on The Usage of Malaysian Standards and Universal Design for Product Competition 2013

Half Day Workshop on Universal Design and Product Design 

In conjunction with UDPC 2013, KAED Universal Design Unit and Department of Standards Malaysia is proudly organizing a Half-Day Workshop on Universal Design and Product Design which will be held on 17th September 2013 (Tuesday) at KAED Briefing Room, Level 4, Kulliyyah of Architecture and Environmental Design, International Islamic University Malaysia at 9.00am. The workshop will give some insights on transportation guidelines as well as highlight the Malaysian Standards and other regulations. The invited speakers are experts in the field of transportation and infrastructure. The target audience for the workshop are professional designers, manufacturers, educators and students. This workshop is open to everybody with refreshments provided.

3rd International Conference on Universal Design in the Built Environment.

In conjunction with the 30th IIUM anniversary celebration, we are organizing the 3rd International Conference on Universal Design in the Built Environment. “MUSAWAH or Equality is the main theme of the conference to promote Universal Design in the built environment.  In line with the idea of “Sharing the World” between all able and disabled communities, Universal Design strives to be a broad-spectrum solution that helps everyone.  Within the context of equal opportunities and justice for all, this conference is an attempt to create awareness especially to the plight of People with Disabilities within the built environment, to live and perform in comfort and ease much like any ordinary persons.  The intentions of the conference are manifested in the areas of interest where Universal Design will benefit including Universal  Design, Heritage & Conservation, Tourism in Built Environment and Green Technology.

Registration fees for ICUDBE2013 are displayed in the table.  For participants who register for the concurrent conference ICABE2013 held on 7th-8th November 2013 in Cultural Activity Centre, International Islamic University Malaysia. Fee of 2-conference package is given.

ASSESSMENT............................................................................................................................................

Assessment date by the judges: 5th November 2013

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

The organizer has the right to appoint any jury to assess the participating entries and decisions made by the panel of jury are final. The assessment is based on:
  • Novelty of product (How novel is the idea or concept. Is the product unique?)
  • Inventiveness (Is the product innovative or modification of a similar existing product? Would it likely lead to a new product, system, design, material or process?)
  • Functionality (Fulfilling its intended functions, reliability and problem solving)
  • Educational Impact (Contribution of the design/invention on educational aspect for the child development)
  • Universal Design Impact (Contribution of the design/invention on the needs for the disable person, elderly and children development)
  • Ergonomic & safety requirement (The interaction between user, product and environment; physically and psychologically) which follows Malaysian Standards.)
  • Commercial Potentialities (market potential of the invention (is there any evidence of market need? Is the product/invention comparable or superior to similar product in the market?)
  • Presentation and Demonstration Quality (The whole idea/design/invention are presentable which qualify its designers to be awarded as the winner such as quality of its prototype/model, writing, sketches, drawing and verbal presentation/explanation.

Design protection according to the Intellectual Property Rights Act: All participants are encouraged to register their designs under the Intellectual Property Rights Act and to keep all documents as proof of ownership before sending or exposing their design to the organizer.
